The life of Jiddu Krishnamurti and his wisdom with friend, Michael Krohnen

Apr 14, 2022

Today, we are talking about Jiddu Krishnamurti and his teachings. For those of you who dont know of him or his work, Krishnamurti was a great philosopher of the 20th century. Khalil Gibran considered him the manifestation of “the God of Love”. George Bernard Shaw said, “He is the most beautiful person I have ever met.”

Today’s episode is with Michael Korhnen, who was born in Germany at the end of World War 2. Growing up in post-war Germany disillusioned him in regard to social, collective efforts. He studied world religions, like Taoism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and more.

In 1975, through the recommendation of some friends from Ojai, he assumed the position of chef at the school there - the newly founded Oak Grove School, even though he had never cooked before. Part of his duty as school cook turned out to be preparing luncheons for JK and his guests during the three-month period that JK stayed in Ojai, California. Thus, he got to know JK in a personal, casual setting, and they became good friends.

After JK's passing in February 1986, he started composing a memoir, based on his times with the philosopher. It was a labor of love and was published in 1995 under the title "The Kitchen Chronicles - 1,001 Lunches with J. Krishnamurti".

Michael has continued working for the KFA (Krishnamurti Foundation of America) in various capacities. For the past twenty years he has been the Librarian at the Krishnamurti Library in Ojai, which is where we met.

We talk about the following and so much more:

✅ Who Krishnamurti is and why his work is important
✅ What Theosophy is and how Madame Lavasky’s work influence the journey of Krishnamurti’s life
✅ What brought JD to Ojai, and what he thinks his greatest legacy has been on humanity
✅ How he came to meet Krishnamurti and what his experience was like after spending so much time with him
✅ Why JD urges listeners not to accept what he tells people at face value and why he was so different than other philosophers and mystics
