A new approach to mental health with holistic psychiatrist with Ellen Vora

Dec 10, 2020

Today’s episode is about a new approach to mental health with holistic psychiatrist, Dr. Ellen Vora, an MD graduate from Columbia University medical school. Dr. Vora is a board-certified psychiatrist, medical acupuncturist, and yoga teacher.

She takes a functional medicine approach to mental health–-considering the whole person and addressing imbalance at the root, rather than reflexively prescribing medication. In addition to her private practice, Dr. Vora is also a writer, speaker, and a consultant for healthcare startups.

In this episode we talk about:

1. Holistic psychiatry, why considering the whole person in healing, and not just one part is needed
2. Tips for insomnia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, and other emotional ailments
3. Why the mind-body connection is so important
4. Dominant themes on health and wellness in the last decade
5. How to stay emotionally balanced
